There is nothing quite like the thrilling anticipation of a surprise proposal. It’s a moment packed with so much emotion—a feeling I live for! And when a client plans it from hundreds of miles away? That just elevates the adventure!
I recently had the incredible privilege of photographing a stunning proposal for Dre and Kennedy at the beautiful Cypresswood Golf Club here in the Houston area.
The Long-Distance Proposal Plan
Dre was coordinating the entire event from Toronto, proving that love truly knows no distance! He handled the scheduling with the course seamlessly. My job, as their Houston proposal photographer, was to make sure the logistics on the ground were perfect.
A week before the big day, I met with the General Manager at Cypresswood—and I have to say, the course staff were incredibly helpful and willing to assist! We figured out the best place to grab a golf cart (a must for quickly getting to the 18th hole!), and exactly how to sneak into position without being spotted.
Love, Suspicion, and 50 Degrees
On the day of the proposal, Mother Nature decided to add an unexpected challenge: it was a blustery, bone-chilling 50 degrees with no sun in sight. Kennedy was so cold she actually left the course at one point to warm up in her car!
As the afternoon went on, Kennedy started to get a little suspicious. Dre was being extremely particular about his outfit for a casual round of golf, and when he insisted she join him on the 16th hole, her antennae were definitely up.
The 18th Hole Magic
Despite the cold and the growing suspicion, the moment itself was pure magic.
As they reached the 18th hole and Dre knelt for what Kennedy thought was the final putt... he pulled out a ring box instead! All the annoyance about the weather and the cold immediately melted away when she found him on one knee. It’s impossible not to tear up watching that kind of raw, beautiful emotion unfold.
And that ring! It was truly one-of-a-kind: a magnificent double ring featuring a sparkling emerald cut stone nestled beside an elegant pear cut stone. It was absolutely breathtaking and perfectly unique, just like their love story.
Capturing the Unexpected Beauty
Because Kennedy was freezing and shaking, we kept the portrait session short and sweet—focusing only on those essential, emotional images immediately after she said “Yes!”
Even with the challenging weather and circumstances, the final images we captured were incredible. The couple later shared that they loved the gallery and that the images turned out better than they expected! It just goes to show that true connection always shines through, regardless of the forecast.
For anyone looking for unique proposal spots in Houston, the Cypresswood Golf Club offers a gorgeous and memorable backdrop. It’s a perfect option for a private, intimate moment.
If you’re planning your own surprise, whether it’s in The Woodlands, Houston, or beyond, I’d be honored to help you plan the logistics and capture those incredible memories. I promise to go above and beyond, because your special moment deserves nothing less!
