A Joyful Extended Family Session | Conroe, Texas
There’s something especially meaningful about photographing extended families — generations together, gathered in one place, celebrating time that doesn’t always come often enough.
This sweet family gathered in Stillwater in Conroe, Texas, where the grandparents live, while their children and grandchildren were visiting for the holidays. With everyone already together after Christmas, it felt like the perfect opportunity to pause, slow down, and capture this season before everyone returned home and life picked back up.
In true Texas fashion, the weather showed up for us. While many parts of the country were bundled up, we were gifted a warm, comfortable day in the 70s, which made the session feel relaxed and easy. We met at a nearby neighborhood pavilion — a simple, meaningful location that allowed plenty of space for the kids to move, laugh, and just be themselves.
We started with large group photos, making sure everyone was included, then moved into individual family groupings, and of course spent time capturing grandparents with their grandchildren — always one of my favorite parts of an extended family session. There was so much laughter, playful energy, and genuine connection throughout our time together.
One thing this family did exceptionally well was coordinating their outfits. The colors were beautifully complementary without feeling overly matched — soft, cohesive tones that photographed timelessly and allowed the focus to stay where it belongs: on the people and their relationships.
Extended family sessions like this are about more than just photos. They’re about honoring the legacy being built, the love shared across generations, and the memories that deserve to be preserved. These images will live on as reminders of a season filled with togetherness, joy, and the simple gift of being in the same place at the same time.
